Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula is set to lead the High Mass to mark the start of the Feast of the Black Nazarene midnight of Monday, Jan. 9, at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

"By midnight of Jan. 9, we will have the Misa Mayor that shall be presided by Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula," the Quiapo Church said.

The Quiapo Church reminded the devotees to strictly observe the minimum public health standards.

"Devotees, who will attend the Mass, are encouraged to follow protocol procedures by observing physical distancing, wearing of face masks, and to use alcohol or disinfectants," it said.

Organizers said that fiesta Masses will also be conducted at the Quiapo Church from midnight until 11 p.m.

For those who cannot physically participate, all Masses can be viewed on Quiapo Church's official Facebook page and Youtube channel.

Since December, the Quiapo Church has launched various activities for this annual feast. These include the “Pagdalaw” (visitation of the image of Black Nazarene in various areas), blessing of the replicas and istandartes, and a thanksgiving motorcade.

The "Pagpupugay," which started early Saturday, has been continuously conducted—giving the devotees a chance to touch the image of the Black Nazarene at the Quirino Grandstand. This activity is set to end on Monday.

On the other hand, the "Walk of Faith" procession was also held early Sunday, Jan. 8, starting at the Quirino Grandstand to the Quiapo Church. Organizers reported that at least 88,000 devotees participated in this event.
