PPA: New passenger terminal building to open at Port of Calapan in March 2023

The opening of the new Passenger Terminal Building will help solve the usual scenario of long queues of passengers at the of the Port of Calapan, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said.

PPA General Manager Jay Santiago said the new PTB building is expected to open in March this year and could accommodate up to 3,500 people at any given time.

"This will be the largest PTB in the country. Expect that when we open the new Passenger Terminal Building in Calapan, passengers will be more comfortable," said Santiago.

He made the statement amid social media posts showing long lines of passengers at the Port of Calapan on Jan. 3 when thousands of people in MIndoro island started to return to Manila.

Based on the Port of Calapan data, the number of passengers on Jan. 3 was 16,086, the largest number of passenger recorded since Dec. 22 last year.

Thousands of passengers were stranded due to shortage of ships and the bad weather condition.
