NPA supporter yields in Cagayan

CAMP Tirso H. Gador, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – A New People’s Army supporter surrendered to the police in the municipality of Santo Niño, this province, recently.

According to the surrenderer, “Emilia,” she and other residents of their barangay were indoctrinated by a group of about 70 NPA rebels led by alias ‘’Bobet’’ in 2013 and were encouraged to support the communist movement by providing food and shelter.

They were also required to provide information regarding the presence of operating troops in their barangay.

She said that in December 2016 during the peace talks between the government and the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA-National Democratic Front, about 100 NPA members stayed for a week in their barangay with two armed members and three Aetas.

Emilia underwent custodial debriefing. Her surrender was the result of the efforts of the Santo Niño police led by Major Dennis Matias in coordination with the barangay officials.
