For Mark Moneda, the director of short film “See You, George”, his movie is about providing the audience with a realistic perspective from the point of view of health care frontliners during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film centers around a virtual necrological ceremony for one of the HCWs’ fallen colleagues. The solemn gathering eventually turns into a recollection of dark and haunting memories.
According to Moneda, what makes his film different from other entries is that it highlights the struggles of Filipino health care professionals as they fight for their rights against socio-political injustices.
In terms of filmmaking, Moneda admitted that shooting during a pandemic, they were afraid of possible health risks for their cast and crew.
“We made this project when we were still under a certain alert level here in our province. "Considering the content that we intend to materialize, we needed an actual crowd in most of our outdoor scenes. We didn’t want to fake it and that itself was a huge challenge for us."
However, he said that it was all worth it in the end.
“This short film was inspired from the unheard voices of the unseen people. Most of them are just around us, silently crying for justice. They are just waiting not to be appreciated nor glorified but to be heard and at least understood,” he said as he invited viewers to watch their short film.
