Two PH universities listed in THE Asia University Rankings 2022

Two universities from the Philippines were included in the latest Asia University Rankings released by the Times Higher Education (THE) on Thursday, June 2.

University of the Philippines / De La Salle University

The University of the Philippines (UP) and the De La Salle University (DLSU) made it to the list which assessed 616 universities from 31 regions.

UP dropped in the rankings while DLSU kept its previous spot.

From the 84th spot in 2021, UP --- the country's premier state university --- dropped to the 129th spot in the Asia University Rankings 2022 of THE.

DLSU, on the other hand, was able to maintain its place in the 401-500 bracket.

Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), meanwhile, was labeled as among the participating schools but did not make it to the list.

As posted on its website, THE said that the 2022 Asia University Rankings used the same 13 performance indicators as the World University Rankings but these indicators “have been adjusted to reflect the attributes” of the universities in Asia.

“The ranking assesses all of the University's core missions, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook, to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparison,” THE said.

THE said that for the third time, mainland Chinese universities have “occupied the top one or two places in the ranking.”

This year, Tsinghua University once again topped the list followed by Peking University.

The other universities that made it to the top 10 include the National University of Singapore (Singapore); University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong); Nanyang Technological University, (Singapore); The University of Tokyo (Japan); Chinese University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong); Seoul National University (South Korea); The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Hong Kong); and Fudan University (China).
