Russia-Ukraine conflict raised in BBM's meeting with Russian envoy

The Russia-Ukraine conflict raised during the meeting Monday, June 13 between President-elect Bongbong Marcos and Ambassador Marat Pavlov of Russia.

This was confirmed by Pavlov himself, who held a held a short press briefing with local reporters at the BBM headquarters in Mandaluyong City after his courtesy call.

"We touched the situation in Ukraine but very briefly," the envoy said.

"Mr. President-elect said a few words regarding the situation and maybe the representative of president-elect's administration will explain the.... As far as I understand, president-elect would like to continue his independent policy and he will cooperate with the Russian Federation," Pavlov said.

Marcos didn't face the reporters.

The incoming Filipino leader earlier said that he would continue President Duterte's independent foreign policy.

During the campaign period, Marcos was quoted as saying, "I stand united with the rest of the world for Russia to respect Ukraine's freedom and citizens' democratic way of life."
