The Navotas City government announced on Wednesday, Dec. 28, that it has distributed livelihood packages to 80 city residents under the “Angat Kabuhayan” program of the NavotaAs Hanapbuhay Center.
Among the beneficiaries were 30 senior citizens, 10 persons with disabilities (PWDs), 20 parents of child laborers, and 20 retired or displaced overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The distributed livelihood packages include items for sari-sari stores, rice dealership, food business, frozen goods, manicure and pedicure, and dishwashing soap production.
The city government said the distribution were held at the Navotas City Hall where the elderlies and PWDs received their packages on Wednesay, Dec. 26, while the parents of child laborers and retired/displaced OFWs got theirs on Tuesday, Dec. 27. There were also 10 solo parents who received the livelihood packages last Nov. 28.
The beneficiaries were chosen based on the recommendations of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA). Some of them lost their businesses while others lost jobs or their source of income due to the pandemic.
The city government also said the beneficiaries underwent business planning and entrepreneurship seminars which will help them in managing their businesses.
Navotas City Rep. Tobias “Toby” Tiangco encouraged the beneficiaries to strive and make their businesses grow to help their families bounce back from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Although we no longer worry much about the pandemic, the effects of this global health crisis still linger and are especially evident in the country’s economic status. Our city government shall continue to provide more livelihood opportunities for Navoteño families,” the congressman said.
The NavotaAs Hanapbuhay Center is the local government’s office that provides livelihood programs for Navotas residents, according to the city government.
