Forest fire hits Benguet; 350 hectares affected


BAGUIO CITY – Three-hundred fifty hectares have been affected in a forest fire that hit Itogon and Bokod in Benguet.

The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, through the Philippine Air Force-Tactical Operations Group 1 and Bureau of Fire Protection-Cordillera Administrative Region, has been conducting Bambi Bucket operations to contain the fire on the boundary of Bokod and Itogon.

The fire which started on Dec. 22 continues to grow due to strong winds.

A PAF-TOG 1 helicopter left Loakan Airport here and scooped water from the Binga Dam in Itogon and dropped it on affected areas in Itogon.

Cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
