1,096 hog raisers affected by ASF in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Over 1,000 hog raisers here have been affected by the African Swine Fever that has impacted pork supply in the country.

City veterinarian Dr. Mario Ariola said the city government continues to assist affected hog raisers whose livelihood was severely affected by ASF.

He said 253 hog raisers have received financial assistance. They were chosen based on the number of hog mortalities.

One-hundred forty-nine hog raisers were included in the Department of Labor and Employment’s TUPAD program while 136 were provided assistance by the City Social Welfare and Development's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations.

More than 900 hog raisers were provided with food assistance by the city government.

Nearly 4,000 hogs in Zamboanga City have perished due to ASF while 34 barangays have been affected.
