CEBU CITY – Police are investigating a reported case of animal abuse after two men shot a stray dog in Barangay Duljo here recently.
Col. Ireneo Dalogdog, chief of the Cebu City Police Office, has instructed the Mambaling Police Station to identify the persons who shot and wounded Sam, an ‘’asong Pinoy’’ or “Aspin.”
In a Facebook post by Happy Tails Philippines, an organization advocating animal welfare, two men were said to have shot Sam while the stray dog was sleeping on a sidewalk.
The dog was brought to a veterinary clinic where an X-ray examination revealed that a bullet was embedded in the body.
The dog underwent operation. Shrapnel was found in one of Sam's feet that led to an amputation.
The incident reached Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, who then instructed the CCPO to conduct a thorough investigation.
It was not the first time that an animal cruelty was reported in this city.
A dog named ‘’Bonbon’’ is still recuperating after the pooch was stabbed in the head by still unidentified persons.
Bonbon was rescued by concerned citizens after the animal was seen roaming around with a knife stuck in the forehead.
The knife was only removed after Bonbon was brought to a veterinary clinic.
"The Vice Mayor reached out to us to look into this because this is the second time that we received a report similar to this. The Vice Mayor was also concerned with what happened to Bonbon," said Dalogdog.
Efforts to identify the culprits are still ongoing, said Dalogdog.
Dalogdog warned that the persons responsible for shooting Sam will be held liable for violating the Animal Welfare Act.
