D&L, CCPI to expand personal care business

Consumer Care Products Inc. (CCPI), the privately-owned marketing arm of Jadel Holdings, and sister company of D&L Industries Inc. are planning to grow their personal care business by tapping the upscale market which has a growing preference for healthy and all-natural products.

In an interview, D&L President and CEO Alvin Lao said D&L develops and manufactures CCPI’s branded consumer products which are mostly greener alternatives to petrochemicals-based personal and home care products.

CCPI has just launched a new liquid body soap following the successful introduction of its germicidal Dr. Coco Natural Hand Soap.

Lao said their hand soap is not petrochemicals-based which has toxic components. “Since it uses coconut oil, there is no toxic ingredient inside and it is biodegradable. So it’s better for our health and better for the environment,” Lao explained.

On the other hand, he said Dr. Coco Natural Body Soap “has a similar formulation but it’s made better.”

“These are the types of products that we’re going into more in our group. Our group is really know for B2B (business to business) where our products are bought and used by other companies. But we are now making more consumer products,” Lao said.

Aside from its natural soap products, CCPI also markets nutritional products, pet food and supplies, insecticides, air-fresheners, household cleansers, disinfectants, and automotive care products which are manufactured by D&L.

He noted that these products are being marketed under brands owned by CCPI that is separate from D&L because “we don’t want to look like we are competing with our customers. So we want to be careful.”

“But, our product (Dr. Coco) is not 100 percent competition because it’s natural coconut oil-based and no one else in the Philippines makes a product like this on a big scale,” said Lao adding that Dr. Coco is a premium product and costs more than regular germicidal soaps.

CCPI sees a big market for Dr. Coco products since Filipinos are very hygienic and wash their hands often and takes baths or showers two to three times a day.

Lao said that they are initially targeting the local market for these products before thinking of exporting these overseas.

While CCPI owns the brand and market it, Dr. Coco was formulated, manufactured, and packaged by D&L. “The purpose of D&L is really to highlight that we are capable of coming out with a complete package. If you need a product for your brand, we can customize it for you from the formulation to the packaging,” said Lao.
