Police forces in Central Visayas have confiscated more than P13 million worth of illegal drugs in just a span of one week following an intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign in the region.
Police Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba, director of the Police Regional Office 7, said the series of operations from Dec. 9-15 also resulted in the arrest of 119 illegal drugs personalities in various provinces and cities in Central Visayas.
Alba attributed the aggressive campaign against illegal drugs to the creation of the One Cebu Inter-Agency Interdiction Task Force on Dec. 7 wherein various offices and stakeholders have joined forces to contain the demand and supply for illegal drugs in the region.
“I am grateful to the Cebu Provincial Government and to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, drug czar in the province for the pouring of support to Team PNP Region 7. We will continue to intensify border protection measures and better policing strategies against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region,” said Alba.
Based on the PRO7 data, more than P8.3 billion worth of illegal drugs were confiscated from January this year.
While the anti-illegal drugs campaign is aggressive, the PNP is focusing more on bloodless drug war following the order from the PNP leadership to value life and give illegal drugs personalities, especially the users, a second chance.
