Youth urged to adapt to the rapidly changing times

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Youth chairman Daet Bishop Rex Andrew Alarcon has called on the Filipino youth to find ways to adapt to the rapidly changing times.

In his message for National Youth Day, which will be observed on Friday, Dec. 16, the Church leader reminded the youth to keep their focus on Jesus as they adapt to the ever-evolving world.

“As we all celebrate the National Youth Day, our prayer and wish for all is that we may all have the agility to face and address the rapidly changing challenges, keeping our minds, hearts, and spirit focused on the Lord Jesus who comes to rescue us,” said Bishop Alarcon.

The prelate called on the youth to coordinate and help in the programs of their respective parishes in preparation for World Youth Day in August 2023, which will be held in Lisbon, Portugal.

In line with the theme ‘Mary arose and went with haste,’ Bishop Alarcon encouraged the youth to follow the example of Mary, who responded without hesitation to the will of the Father.

“Dear young people, let us resist the temptation of self-absorption. May we not be simply concerned with self-preservation. Rather, let us look at the needs of others as our own,” the bishop said.

The National Youth Day on Dec. 16 coincides with the first day of the nine-day Simbang Gabi votive masses in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
