Operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) arrested an alleged 'salisi' couple after stealing from a foreigner in Quezon City on Thursday, Dec. 8.
Maj. Don Don Llapitan, chief of CIDU, identified the suspects as John Bernard Diarez Navarra, 35, resident of Brgy. Milagrosa, Quezon City and Lorie Jean Bernal Navarra, 32, resident of Antipolo City, Rizal.
According to the police report, the police conducted a follow-up operation after a British national reported that his belongings were stolen at about 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at a fastfood chain located at a supermarket in Brgy. Tagumpay, Project 4, Quezon City.
They then able to identify and locate Lorie Jean in coordination with the Police Regional Office- Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, and Rizal (CALABARZON) where they presented to her the gathered photographs and CCTV footage of the incident. She then admitted to the crime.
Lorie Jean also disclosed the whereabouts of her husband who was later arrested at about 10:09 p.m.
The police said John Bernard resisted the arrest and pushed one of the arresting officers, causing injuries to the officer's right hand.
Meanwhile, police also said they recovered a sachet of suspected shabu from John Bernard's possession.
Among the other recovered items were a sling bag containing cash amounting to P18,000, 180 British pounds, a British passport and registration card under the name of Kevin Arrowsmith, assorted keys, a sunglass, an Ocean credit card (Europe), a brown wallet, three electronic tickets, and a black Yamaha Mio Gear motorcycle.
The suspects will be charged for violations of Article 308 (Theft) of the Revised Penal Code while additional charges to John Bernard for Resistance in Person of Authority and violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2022).
