Cebu Port Authority completes P81-M seaport project

CEBU CITY – The Cebu Port Authority (CPA) on Friday, Dec. 9, reported the completion of a major seaport development project.

The project with a total budget of P80.8 million sourced from the CPA Corporate Budget involves the repair and expansion of the RC Deck inside the Cebu Baseport at the back of the Malacañan sa Sugbo here.

The CPA said the project is one of the key infrastructure projects locally funded and implemented by CPA to address the needs of its users as the Port of Cebu serves as one of the primary maritime gateways for commerce, trade, and tourism in the country.

“This new port facility is expected to give a competitive advantage for the Port of Cebu as this will provide additional berthing space for tramp vessels in Cebu Baseport to help ease vessel traffic and reduce or even eliminate vessel waiting time,” the CPA said in a statement.

The CPA also reported that a year after the devastation brought by typhoon ‘’Odette,’’ it has completed nine repair and rehabilitation projects of damaged port facilities. Five repair projects are ongoing and set to be completed by first quarter of 2023.

“It is undeniable that the Port of Cebu has endured the impacts of typhoon ‘Odette,’ but we are very happy that CPA was able to bounce back and build better to deliver safe, effective, and efficient port services to our local and international port stakeholders,” said CPA acting Deputy General Manager Glenn B. Castillo.
