Woman sought for kidnapping falls in Palawan


CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – A 37-year-old woman wanted for kidnapping was arrested after more than three years of hiding in Palawan, police said.

Brig. Gen. Sidney S. Hernia, Police Regional Office-Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan area) chief, identified the suspect as Jai Sunshine S. Chua.

Chua, wanted for kidnapping for ransom, carnapping, and violation of Republic Act (RA) 7610 or the Child Abuse Protection Law and a resident of Barangay Bancao-bancao here, was arrested on Rizal Ave., Barangay Liwanag, by the City Intelligence Unit and Police Station 1, both under Col. Roberto M. Bucad, Puerto Princesa City Police Office chief.

Chua was arrested on a warrant for three counts of kidnapping for ransom issued by the Regional Trial Courts Branch 69 and 70, National Capital Judicial Region with no bail recommended.

She also had warrants of arrest for two counts of violating RA 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act) in relation to PD 603 (Youth Welfare Act), with a P10,000 bail each, and RA 10883 (New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016) with a recommended bail of P300,000, all issued by RTC Branch 69 in Taguig City.

Hernia lauded the arrest of the suspect who is also allegedly involved in extortion activities by posing as a PDEA agent in the National Capital Region and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon area).
