KABUGAO, Apayao – High-powered firearms owned by the Komiteng Larangan Guerilla North Abra of the New People’s Army were recovered in armed encounter on Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Barangay Maragat here.
Troops were conducting combat operations after receiving information about the presence of communist guerrillas in the area when the gunbattle occurred.
Troops also found ammunition and subversive documents in the encounter site.
The military said with the support of locals, they will hunt down the fleeing rebels and convince them to return to the fold of the law.
The provincial government has provided support to the anti-insurgency campaign through an executive order giving financial reward to those who can arrest and or kill a leader or member of the NPA in Apayao.
