Makati's most child-friendly barangays, PCPs hailed

Ten barangays and three police community precincts (PCPs) in Makati City were recognized by the city government for being the most child-friendly barangays and PCPs in the city during its 2022 Search for the Most Child-Friendly Barangay and Police Community Precincts.

The awarding ceremony held at the City Hall on Dec. 6 was attended by Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo, First District Rep. Kid Peña, Second District Rep. Luis Campos, city councilors, barangay captains, and PCP commanders.

According to Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, the barangays who achieved five stars each won P500,000 cash prize and a seal, while P250,000 cash prize and a seal were awarded to each barangay with a four-star rating. Barangays rated three stars each got P100,000 and a seal.

Meanwhile, the police substations of Guadalupe, Palanan and Bangkal received five, four, and three stars, respectively.

For PCP winners, the prizes were P350,000 cash and a seal for a five-star rating, P200,000 cash and a seal for four stars, and P150,000 and a seal for three stars.

"Congratulations to all the barangays and PCPs who were vetted as most child-friendly this year. Because of your hard work and dedication, Makati continues to be a safe place for children. We are truly grateful to have you as our trustworthy partners in building safe communities for young Makatizens to thrive and achieve their full potential,” Binay said.

According to the city government, the Search for the Most Child Friendly Barangay is conducted annually and automatically considers all 33 barangays in Makati as participants.

They are then grouped into five categories based on their similarities, such as income, population, and presence/absence of elementary and high schools. Barangays are then evaluated in key areas based on the children's survival, development, protection, and participation.

Meanwhile, 10 PCPs are automatically included as participants for the search. They are evaluated based on physical facilities, training of personnel, information and advocacy, effectiveness of child protection services, and effectiveness of child protection awareness.

The cash award given shall be exclusively used for programs and projects intended for children, according to the city government.
