77 young turtles released in Boracay


ILOILO CITY -- With a backdrop of the picturesque sunset, a total of 77 young turtles were released in Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Local residents and tourists are eager to take photos and videos of the releasing of 77 young Olive Ridley turtles at world-famous Boracay Island last December 6, 2022.  (DENR’s Boracay CENRO).

“Another majestic moment was witnessed by the locals and tourists,” the Western Visayas regional office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-6) reported Wednesday, December 7.

The DENR-Boracay’s Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) headed by Joanette Opeda and the Movenpick Resort and Spa facilitated the release of the healthy 77 young Olive Ridleys.

Since 2018, the DENR-6 and its private partners have been partners in taking the initiative to boost environmental conservation. The beach itself was rehabilitated during the Duterte administration.

“The existence of turtles is an indicator and achievement for the goals of rehabilitation and recovery of ecosystems in Boracay island as well as in the conservation and protection of these threatened species,” added DENR-6.
