Teen kills cousin over gossip in Negros town


BACOLOD CITY – A 16-year old girl stabbed her cousin to death allegedly over claims she was angered by the latter’s gossip in Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Monday, Dec. 5.

Police withheld the names of the 17-year-old victim and the suspect.

La Castellana Police chief Capt. Rhojn Darell Nigos said the suspect, accompanied by her father, surrendered to the police on Tuesday, Dec. 6, and confessed about the crime she commited.

Nigos said the suspect told the police that she slapped the victim before she stabbed her.

The suspect narrated that she invited her cousin to go with her for a walk after they came from a computer shop.

However, when they arrived at a secluded part of the village, the suspect allegedly confronted the victim about the gossip, which police refused to elaborate.

After the confrontation, the suspect, armed with a knife, allegedly stabbed the victim several times, Nigos said.

Upon receiving the report on Tuesday, police rushed to the area and found the victim who was already dead.

Nigos said they are waiting for the result of the postmortem examination to determine the other injuries of the victim.

Nigos said they are also checking if the suspect did the crime alone or if someone was involved who may have helped the suspect or instructed her to commit the crime.

Nigos said the suspect was referred to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
