QC cops launch manhunt vs security guard who robbed drug store


Members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) are hunting down a security guard who robbed a drug store in Barangay Dona Josefa, Quezon City on Tuesday morning, Dec. 6.

The QCPD identified the suspect as Erick Mercado, 35, a resident of Barangay Payatas, Quezon City.

Police said the suspect robbed the branch of Mercury Drug Store on Banawe St. in Brgy. Dona Josefa, where he was detailed as a security guard.

Initial investigation disclosed that Jerome Cejo, the assistant branch manager, and Catherine Celis, a cashier, were inside the drugstore at around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday when the suspect entered, pulled out a firearm and declared a holdup.

Police said the suspect ordered Cejo to forcibly open the store’s safety vault.

The suspect then took an undetermined amount of cash from the vault and fled on board a motorcycle towards Quezon Avenue.

Authorities recovered the broken safety vault as well as six cellphones.
