Faithful urged to follow example of the Blessed Mother

As Roman Catholics observe the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday, Dec. 8, Conference of Major Superiors in the Philippines (CMSP) executive secretary Rev. Fr. Christian Buenafe, O.Carm., called on the faithful to follow the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Fr. Buenafe, who is also the chairman of the Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP) said that just like Mary who made a difference in the world, everyone can also make a difference in the field where he/she belongs.

“Just like Mary, as we celebrate the Immaculada Concepcion, a very simple woman but she made a huge difference. We, too, can love God and others and make a difference in whatever field we are in,” said Fr. Buenafe over Radio Veritas.

The priest said Mary’s decision to accept the mission to be the Mother of God made a big difference in the world. Her love for God and for others served as her inspiration to make a difference in the lives of mankind, Fr. Buenafe said.

“On Dec. 8, we have the Immaculate Conception. Mary was a simple woman from Nazareth who said’ ‘yes’ to God’s plan for her to be the Mother of God. She has no special powers. All she has was her love for God and her love for others,” said Fr. Buenafe.

The Catholic faithful led by Marian devotees will celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on Dec. 8 with special masses, novenas, serenades, and flower and candle offerings. The day is a non-working holiday in the Philippines and a holy day of obligation for Roman Catholics.
