‘Bakunang Bayan’ program in Surigao del Sur targets more than 25,000

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur – Health authorities in Surigao del Sur are eyeing to vaccinate more than 25,000 children under the ‘Bakunahang Bayan’ Part ll program.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) based here is targeting the immunization of children aged 5 to 17 in the three-day special immunization that started on Monday and will culminate on Wednesday (Dec. 7).

The ‘Bakunahang Bayan ll’ program takes place in the different areas in this Pacific Ocean facing province.

The Surigao del Sur PHO is calling on the parents to have their children vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019, and those fully vaccinated to have their booster shots administered.

The first two days of the ‘Bakunahang Bayan ll’ program though had some glitches due to bad weather conditions that saw continuous downpour in the different parts of the region, particularly in Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur provinces since last week.

The continuous rains prompted some local government units to cancel school classes for the safety of the children.

Surigao del Sur has been placed under an orange rainfall alert since Monday morning.

However, despite continuous rains, the ‘Bakunahang Bayan II’ pushed through in Surigao del Sur province.
