Army corporal nabbed for alleged gun-running activities in Cagayan de Oro


Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested on Sunday, Dec. 4, an Army corporal for his alleged involvement in gun-running activities.

CIDG director Police Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee said the Army enlisted personnel was collared in an entrapment in Cagayan de Oro City where he sold high-caliber firearms and explosives to a police poseur-buyer.

He identified the arrested suspect as 33-year-old Army Corporal Gilbert Apostol Roja.

Seized from him were a modified M14 rifle, a .45 pistol, two fragmentation grenades, 411 rounds of assorted bullets, three cellular phones, and magazines for M15 and .45 pistols.

Lee said Roja is now under the custody of the said CIDG office while criminal complaints for violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Law) and RA 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives) are being readied for filing before the Prosecutor’s Office.
