Woman trapped as residential building collapses in Malabon


A woman was trapped under some fallen debris from a four-storey residential building on Orchid Street, Barangay Longos, Malabon City that collapsed on Sunday morning, Dec. 4.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) identified the victim as Ronalyn Tombukon, 22. She was sucessfully rescued by members of the BFP at around 11:22 a.m.

The victim sustained injuries and was rushed to the Hospital ng Malabon for treatment.

Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) Head Roderick Tongol said that the victim was asleep when the building collapsed at around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The incident affected two families.

Tongol said residents living near the collapsed building were advised to temporarily vacate their homes for safety.

He also said that they are looking into the possibility that the incident happened due to the weak foundation of the building.

Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval instructed the City Engineering Department to investigate the incident.

Tongol said that the City Engineering Department will conduct a clearing operation in the area on Monday, Dec. 5.
