In the next 24-hour period, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers may prevail in most parts of the country due to two weather systems called shear line and easterlies, the state weather bureau warned on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said shear line, or the convergence of warm and cold winds, is affecting extreme northern Luzon. Easterlies or warm and humid winds from the Pacific Ocean, on the other hand, may affect the eastern section of Luzon and Visayas, as well as the southern portion of Palawan including Kalayaan Islands.
“Sa mga nabanggit na lugar, asahan natin itong banta ng flash floods at landslides. Ngayong umaga pa lang ay may naobserbahan na tayo o namomonitor na kaulapan dito sa eastern section ng Luzon at Visayas. Posibleng magpatuloy ang mga kaulapan na ito throughout the day (In the said areas, let us expect the threat of flash floods and landslides. Just this morning, we have already observed or are monitoring clouds here in the eastern section of Luzon and Visayas. It is possible that these clouds will continue throughout the day),” said PAGASA Weather Specialist Daniel Villamil in a public weather forecast.
Meanwhile, due to the strong winds associated with the northeast monsoon, a gale warning is still in effect over the seaboards of northern Luzon, particularly Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
Fishermen with boats and other small sea vessels were advised not to venture out into the sea due to the rough to very rough sea condition.
