Ex-MMA fighter yields P3.4-M worth of suspected shabu in Cebu City


Government anti-narcotics operatives seized some P3.4 million worth of shabu following the arrest of a former professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter on Saturday, Dec. 3, in Cebu City.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said Slotty Avila, 34, was served with the search warrant n Sunset Drive, Barangay Lahug at around 5 a.m.

It resulted in his arrest after the illegal drugs were reportedly discovered.

Aside from the half kilo of shabu sealed in 25 packs, the PDEA team together with the Naval Forces Central confiscated three digital weighing scales, assorted plastic packaging of online shopping companies and courier services, three empty tea bags, several money transfer receipts and assorted illegal drug paraphernalia.

PDEA Director Levi Ortiz noted that Avila used the plastic packaging of online shopping firms and courier services to conceal the illegal drugs.

“The pieces of drug evidence have been submitted for chemical analysis,’’ PDEA said.

Avila faces charges for violation of Sections 11 and 12, Article II of Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.’’ (Chito A. Chavez)
