P2-M worth of fishing gear, tools, illegally-caught fishes seized in Quezon


QUEZON – Almost P2 million worth of fishing gear and tools were seized from two fishing boats caught using the illegal method in Lamon Bay on Monday early morning, Nov. 28.

According to Danilo Larita Jr. of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the Fisheries Law Enforcement Group with the Naval Forces-Southern Luzon, Coast Guard Station of Guinayangan, Atimonan Calauag and Bantay Dagat-Calauag conducted seaborne patrol operation in Calauag town portion of Lamon Bay.

The commercial fishing boats that were using Modified Danish Seine fishing (buli-buli) were identified as FBCa. R.N. (owned by Miriam Alfuema) and FBCa King Arjay (owned by John Paul Norva).

Norva is a resident of Barangay Baclaran in Calauag town.

The two fishing boats allegedly violated section 97 of R.A. 8550 as amended by R.A. 10654 (ban on Muro-Ami, other methods, and gear destructive to coral reefs and another marine habitat) in relation to FAO no. 246-a (banning the operation of Danish Seine and Modified Danish Seine in the Philippine waters).

Larita said that the fishing boats and the arrested crews were taken to Alabat port for proper documentation and disposition and filing of appropriate charges.
