Globe's 2022 network rollout on track

Globe Telecom Inc.'s network rollout remained on track with 1,064 new cell towers built and P74.4 billion capital expenditure (capex) spent in the first nine months of 2022, the telco announced Monday, November 28.

The bulk of the telco's capex, 84 percent, was allocated for data requirements to enhance customers' data experience.

Globe spent on additional Long Term Evolution (LTE) upgrades, new 5G sites, tower builds, and Fiber to the Home (FTTH) rollout.

On top of 1,064 new cell sites built, Globe upgraded 10,600 mobile sites to LTE, and added 1,887 new 5G sites nationwide.

Furthermore, the telco deployed 1.4 million FTTH lines as of end-September 2022, compared to over 1 million lines from a year ago.

This is in line with the company’s bid to make fast and reliable connectivity accessible to more households and businesses.

“Globe’s network rollout momentum continues and is expected to surpass last year’s builds," saysJoel Agustin, Head of Network Planning and Engineering.

"These accelerated upgrading and network expansion efforts will not only deliver a more consistent level of network quality but will elevate the standard of connectivity in the country,” he added.

With the ongoing network upgrade and expansion, Globe posted the highest scores in All Technology Consistency in the third quarter according to Ookla® Speedtest Intelligence® data, with 82.55 and All Technology Availability with 92.03.

As part of its ambition to deliver a #1stWorldNetwork, Globe, together with its partners, has landed fiber optic cables in several provinces since July, on track to complete the project by April, 2023.

The $150-million Philippine Domestic Submarine Cable Network (PDSCN), the longest domestic subsea cable project in the Philippines, has 33 landing points, covering a total cable distance of about 2,500 kilometers.

The project will deliver connectivity crucial to the country’s recovery from the pandemic.
