FedEx projects higher e-commerce sales for holidays

Online shopping sales in the Philippines continued to be higher than in-store purchases with further growth in e-commerce expected this year, according to FedEx Express (FedEx).

“With the holiday season upon us, we anticipate an increase in e-commerce sales," Maribeth Espinosa, acting managing director at FedEx Express Philippines, confirmed in a statement Monday, November 28.

Cross-border customers start shopping earlier and rely on instant business messaging and focus on brand value.

According to FedEx research, 80 percent of consumers in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) region have increased their e-commerce spending in the last three years.

Furthermore, over 70 percent of consumers think e-commerce spending will continue to grow in the next three years.

E-commerce events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which signal the final countdown to Christmas, continue to make a difference to consumers.

To make the most of the season, e-tailers boost their effectiveness via personalized customer offers, such as online “shoppertainment” and new payment options to attract visitors and clicks.

The bulk, 87 percent of e-merchants, seek additional assistance from logistics providers like Fedex to support these seasonal events.

“In AMEA, the gifting season continues in the months leading up to Christmas through to Lunar New Year," noted Kawal Preet, AMEA FedEx Express president.

“As delivery is a crucial part of customer experience, we’re committed to providing businesses and shoppers with a wide range of easy-to-use solutions to make holiday shipping as easy as possible,” he explained.

Being an enabler of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), FedEx provides the latest tools and solutions to optimize their processes, especially amid the peak season, Espinosa acquiesced.
