The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) - Valenzuela Chapter held its 8th Biennial Chapter Assembly on Friday, Nov. 25 at the PRC Valenzuela City Chapter Building.
The chapter's new Board of Directors was also elected during the event, PRC said.
It was attended by staff and volunteers from other PRC chapters and delegates from the Philippine National Police, Department of Education, Department of the Interior and Local Government - Valenzuela City, Valenzuela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Office of the City Mayor, Valenzuela City Anti Drug Abuse Council, and city health centers.
With the theme, "Embracing the new normal towards a resilient community," PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon said in his speech that the organization has been intensifying its disaster relief efforts by boosting the Red Cross 143 volunteer system.
Red Cross 143 is a community-based volunteering program offered by the organization.
It is composed of one leader and a minimum of 43 members who will work hand in hand to assist their respective areas during times of disaster or relief operations.
As per PRC, this program "promotes a culture of self-help in the communities by developing a formidable network of Red Cross volunteers who will predict potential risk, plan, prepare, and practice for effective community-based disaster risk reduction."
