Man shot dead for selling ‘tawas’ instead of shabu in Bacolod


BACOLOD CITY – A suspected thief and drug pusher was gunned down in broad daylight in Purok Kingfisher A, Barangay 16 here on Friday, Nov. 25, a day after he allegedly sold fake shabu on Thursday, Nov. 24.

Police identified the victim as Mark Christian John Luceño, 31, of Barangay 35 here.

Major Ramel Sarona, head of Police Station 1, said that Luceño was sitting on a pedicab when an unidentified man on a motorcycle arrived and shot the victim in the head, killing him on the spot.

Sarona said investigation found out the victim had an altercation on Thursday with a customer who complained that he was sold alum powder or ‘’tawas,’’ a deodorant, instead of shabu.

The Police Station 1 chief said they are looking into grudges in relation to illegal drugs as possible motive for the murder.

Sarona said the victim was in their drugs watch list and had records for theft in Barangays 16, 35, and adjacent barangays here.

Luceño was previously jailed and was released after serving his sentence, Sarona added.
