Zonta says no to violence against women


Zonta says no to violence against women is an ongoing campaign to raise awareness of and increase actions to end violence against women and girls around the world. This initiative takes place in Zonta clubs and districts worldwide every biennium pushing forth a more inclusive, unified ,and impactful campaign. Every Nov. 25 to Dec. 10, 1,100 Zonta clubs in 63 countries mount their respective 16 days of activism campaign.

In the Philippines, these are commemorated in all four areas of District 17 of Zonta International namely Areas 1 and 5 Metro Manila and Environs, Northern Luzon, and Visayas (Cebu 1 and 2, Bacolod, Iloilo, and Cagayan de Oro)

Various activities like walks, motorcade, photo competitions, tarpolins, awards, seminars, and exhibits exhibits in cooperation with local governments are simultaneously being held throughout the 16 days of activism from Nov. 25 until Dec. 10.

In Metro Manila, Area 1 will hold a motorcade to start in Marikina City Hall  9 a.m. on November 27 which is also Zonta's Orange Day. Twenty clubs in Area 5 will launch Zonta Earth Store featuring eco-friendly products from Women Livelihood projects and secret kitchens from Bicol, Laguna, Paranaque, Las Pinas, Samar, Muntinlupa, and Makati. The launch is 10 a.m. on Nov. 25, Festival Mall Alabang in Muntinlupa City will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Rozzano 'Raffy" Biazon. This will be held at the Earth Store with Area 5 Director Lourdes "Odette" Wallace with other Zonta officials.

The 16 days of activism will culminate with a Liberty Walk on Dec. 10. This will start from the Makati Fire Station in Bankal Street and end at the Ayala Triangle.

The public is invited to join in all these activities in support of no to violence against women.
