Raf Simons closes his namesake brand

After 27 years in the industry, the international fashion brand is shutting down

The global fashion industry was shocked last Monday, Nov. 21, as international fashion brand Raf Simons announces that it is shutting down. Through an Instagram post, Belgian fashion designer Raf Simons wrote that the label’s spring-summer 2023 collection, presented last October, is its final showcase, marking the end of the brand’s 27-year run.

“I lack the words to share how proud I am of all that we have achieved. I am grateful for the incredible support from my team, from my collaborators, from the press and buyers, from my friends and family, and from our devoted fans and loyal followers,” the designer wrote. “Thank you all, for believing in our vision and for believing in me.”

Established in 1995, Raf Simons is highly noted for its contribution to men’s fashion. Raf’s designs are mainly influenced by rebellious youth culture and traditional menswear style.

“The most important message Raf Simons wants to communicate is pride in individuality,” a statement written on the brand’s website says. “The designs are always looking forward for the now and tomorrow, even if they are inspired by historical or classical references. Throughout the years, with the signature style evolving and maturing, the key elements stay the same—modern proportions, a constant research for fabrics and textures, and, above all, the interplay of pure construction and new shapes with the body and psyche of the contemporary men.”

While his eponymous label is now closing its doors, Raf will continue to share his visions in fashion as Prada’s co-creative director.
