BI, CICC to set up cybercrime hubs vs online crime, fraud

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) have signed an agreement for the establishment of cybercrime hubs that will be tasked to handle online frauds and similar cases.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the cybercrime hubs will be set up in major airports and at the Immigration main office in Manila.

The CICC, headed by Executive Director Alexander Ramos, is the government’s lead coordinating agency for the suppression of cybercrimes.

“This partnership between government agencies is a major step towards eliminating cybercrime in the country,” Tansingco said.

"In this way undesirable aliens cannot escape liability and deportation," he added.

For his part, Ramos said the agreement would pave the way for the sharing of information in the investigation of foreign nationals involved in online fraud.
