The Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MMCHD) launched the Routine Catch-up Immunization or "Vax-Baby-Vax" program on Nov. 7 to encourage parents to have their kids vaccinated against diseases, especially those that commonly affect newborn babies.

The Pasig City local government joined the program, urging its citizens to coordinate with their respective barangay health centers to know their vaccination schedules.

According to data from the Pasig City Health Department (CHD), 4,144 of the vaccinated were zero to 12 month old babies, while 2,976 were 13 to 23 months old.

The CHD and its vaccination teams were targeting to vaccinate 7,551 children in the qualified age groups (zero to 23 months old) for the drive.

Despite not fully reaching its exact desired outcome, the “Vax-Baby-Vax” program was well-received by Pasig citizens.

The CHD logged a total of 2,992 inoculated babies in the program’s first week last Nov. 7 to 11.

Out of the 2,992, 2,444were babies aged zero to 12-months old, and 548 were 13 to 23-months old.

Offered by the “Vax-Baby-Vax” program were vaccines to protect infants from viruses and illnesses such as Hepatitis B, Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Haemophilus Influenza Type B, Polio, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella.

“Ang pagtanggap ng mga bakuna sa unang mga buwan ay magbibigay proteksyon sa kanila sa mga sakit na maaaring makuha habang sila ay tumatanda (Having babies vaccinated in their first months of life will give them protection from illnesses that they may acquire as they grow older),” said the MMCHD.
