Murder suspect in Ilocos Norte arrested after 33 years in hiding

CAMP OSCAR FLORENDO, La Union -- A murder suspect was arrested after 33 years in hiding in Batac City, Ilocos Norte.

Brig. Gen. John Chua, director of the Police Regional Office 1, identified the suspect as Nestor Bagaoisan, 63, of Barangay 13 Baay, Batac City.

Bagaoisan was the No. 2 Provincial Top Most Wanted Person and a former patrolman of the Philippine Constabulary-Integrated National Police (PC-INP) who was dismissed from the service for being Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL).

The suspect worked as a security supervisor of a mall in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte until he was involved in the murder of a construction worker in 1984.

The Batac Municipal Police Station filed a murder case in court against Bagaoisan and was issued an arrest warrant on Nov. 27, 1989 by the Regional Trial Court Batac but was never served as he went into hiding.

Lt. Col. Adrian Gayuchan, chief of police of Batac, said the suspect was arrested after a concerned citizen informed them that he had returned to his house.

The suspect said he returned to his house because he thought his case has been settled.
