“Even if we have canceled the much-awaited traslacion procession, we will be holding the Walk of Faith a day before the feast of the traslacion at dawn on Jan. 8,” Fr. Valdez said over Radio Veritas.

The Walk of Faith will be held after the 12-midnight mass on January 8 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila where the Black Nazarene will be brought for the “Pagbibigay Pugay” instead of the traditional “Pahalik” as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

Organizers are currently in the process of finalizing the route of the pilgrim walk.

The priest likewise reminded the faithful who are planning to join the walk to bring candles and to strictly observe the health protocols.

“Let us observe an orderly and peaceful procession mindful of physical distancing. We will not have the actual image of the Black Nazarene during the walk but we are inviting those who are planning to join to bring candles and small images of the Black Nazarene,” said Fr. Valdez.

The devotees are also reminded to wear face masks during the mass and the walk.

The Quiapo Church (Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene or St. John the Baptist Parish) earlier announced the cancellation of the annual traslacion procession for the third time next year as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus.

Other activities will be held such as the celebration of 34 fiesta masses from Jan. 8 to 9. Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula will preside over the midnight Misa Mayor (High Mass) at the Quirino Grandstand on Jan. 9.
