Marikina police wins top prize in 1st EPD skills competition 


The Marikina City Police Station (CPS), headed by Col. Earl Castillo, was declared the champion of the Eastern Police District (EPD)’s first Project ESTOMO competition held on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the San Juan Gymnasium in San Juan City.

Project ESTOMO stands for “Extraordinary Self-defense Armed and Unarmed Tactics for Police Officers to Manage Peace and Order in the Community” and was named after National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Acting Regional Director Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo.

The competition was an opportunity for EPD personnel and the police forces in the Eastern Metro to “showcase, enhance, and maximize their skills and abilities against lawless elements towards a safe, secured, and peaceful community.”

The performances included the “exhibition of martial arts and other combat skills, as well the presentation of actual police response to specific scenarios and cases.”

The Marikina CPS garnered an overall score of 86.45 points out of 100.

Pasig CPS, led by Col. Celerino Sacro, won the first runner-up spot with 85.05 points.

With 84.75 points, the second runner-up spot was awarded to the Mandaluyong CPS, headed by Col. Gauvin Mel Unos.

Aside from the PaMaMariSan (Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina, San Juan) police stations, the EPD’s District Mobile Force Battalion (DMFB) and District Headquarters Team (DHQ) also competed in the event.

Among the guests were EPD acting director Col. Wilson C. Asueta, NCRPO Deputy Regional Director for Administration (DRDA) Brig. Gen. Jose S. Hidalgo Jr., and the police chiefs of PaMaMariSan.

The command groups of the NCRPO and EPD, and other advocacy support groups who showed their support for the performers also attended the event.
