BANGKOK, Thailand—Performance is the best way to build trust, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. told fellow global leaders on Thursday, Nov. 17.
When asked during the APEC CEO Summit on how to efficiently rebuild trust, the President answered in the context of politics.
"In the political context, the way to earn trust is to perform," Marcos said.
"The best politics --- I always say --- the best politics is perform. Because it’s something that cannot be taken away from you and it is something that actually makes a difference in people’s lives," Marcos added, earning applause from fellow leaders.
He stated this during the question-and-answer portion of the APEC CEO Summit which discussed the global economy and future of APEC.
He also delivered a 12-minute opening speech before joining Robert E. Moritz, Global Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Klaus Schwab, founder and chairman of World Economic Forum (WEF) in the forum.
"Perform and you will get the trust back of the people and that is what we all --- all politicians and I’m sure even people from the business side is what we strive for," he said.
In the same forum, the President mentioned the short-term solutions his administration is putting in place such as providing cash aids to people amid the rising prices of food triggered by oil price surge.
"This is not something that we prefer to do. I don’t think that anyone is particularly enamored with direct cash transfer payments. But it is the only way that we can mitigate the situation that our people have," he said.
The chief executive, however, explained that changes must be done to prompt long-term solutions to the pressing issues in the Philippines.
With this, he also urged fellow leaders to make big and structural changes in addressing global issues such as food security, global health system, and climate change.
