Comelec, partners sign MOA for 2023 National Election Summit

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) together with its partners signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the conduct of the National Election Summit slated in January 2023.

The MOA signing was held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Justo Albert Auditorium, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM). Key stakeholders from the academe, civil society organizations, and industry partners of the poll body signed the agreement.

In a statement on Thursday, Nov. 17, Comelec said that the summit aims to “provide a platform for a national dialogue and interaction with, consultation and participation of election stakeholders in the review, formulation and/or enhancement of policies, plans, and programs in election administration and electoral enforcement and adjudication.”

“It aims to tap into the wealth of insights, recommendations and experience of Filipino voters and experts in various fields in the digital transformation of the Comelec and the election system, and to secure their commitment to support the Comelec’'s roadmap towards a free, orderly, honest and credible elections,” it added.

The poll body said that it has also conducted “consultations” with civil society organizations, Information Technology professionals, as well as other concerned government agencies as it is “looking to hold more pre-summit sessions in the rest of the year.”

“The three-day summit proper in January 2023 will serve as the culmination of the dialogues and consultations held for the purpose of addressing key issues and identifying opportunities for meaningful and sustainable reforms,” the Comelec said.
