Here's what you need to know about the street tram in Intramuros

Experience Manila's mode of transportation back in 1888

If you're looking for a sign to visit and explore the historic wall of Intramuros, here it is.

The Intramuros Administration (IA) recently announced that visitors can now explore the walled-city riding the tranvia, a 20th century inspired-train known as street tram.

"You may now book the Intramuros tranvia for your next trip within the Walled City," the Facebook post says. "Route exclusive within Intramuros district. Inclusive of driver. Maximum of 25 pax."

According to research, it was in 1878 when street trams first roamed the streets of Manila. But due to the destruction brought by World War II, these were pulled from the streets while the surviving trams were scrapped.

Going back to the present, you can enjoy this experience by doing online reservation first. Based on the form from IA, a reservation must be made not later than five days before the rental of the tranvia. It can fit up to 20 people. Rental fee starts from P3,000 to P6,000.

It's important to note as well that the only inclusion in the rental is the use of tranvia and the driver on-duty. It means that the client will be the one to decide on the route. If you want to know more about the history of the area, getting a professional tour guide is highly encouraged.
