Miss Planet International: 'The show will go on'

Miss Planet International has released a statement concerning the pageant after several complaints about it were made public.

National Director of Miss Planet Uganda Monica Akech wrote, "Contrary to unconfirmed reports regarding cancellation of the pageant, the show will go on as planned.

"Yes there has been a few challenges due to some delays beyond our control that led to program adjustments, but a lot of effort has been put to ensure that everything is streamlined and candidates are safe and sound," she added.

"On behalf of the organizing team, I would like to assure all that a repeat of the previous day’s incidents will not happen, but focus shall remain on providing the contestants and viewers an amazing time in the pearl of Africa," she went on.

"Preliminary competitions will begin the coming week, broadcasted via NBS and Sanyuka TV- through the Afro mobile app."

The country's representative to the pageant, Herlene Budol, has backed out already.

Herlene's manager Wilbert Tolentino confirmed this in a social media post saying, Due to uncertainties by the organizers, I have decided to withdraw Herlene Hipon Budol from the competition despite numerous attempt to fix some pageants debacles."

Herlene herself has been silent about it.

Several candidates, including Miss Planet Czech Republic 2022 Tamila Sparrow, described the pageant a scam.

Another candidate, Miss Planet Jamaica 2022 Tonille Watkis, said it was cancelled.
