Cop, 1 other nabbed for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition in Caloocan

Operatives of the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) arrested two men, including a cop, for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in the city on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Col. Ruben Lacuesta, CCPS Chief, identified the suspects as Staff Sgt. Gideon G. Geronga, 44, member of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 16, and Urick Waldermar S. Abaca, 34, both residents of Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.

Through a tip from a concerned citizen, CCPS personnel immediately went to Phase 7A, Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City at around 4 a.m. and arrested the suspects after they saw Geronga handing out a pistol to Abaca.

Police said the suspects tried to escape but were captured after a brief chase.

Confiscated from the suspects were a Taurus PT845 .45 caliber Automatic Colt Pistol (ACP), three pieces of the magazine, 21 pieces of live ammunition, and a Philippine National Police (PNP) identification card owned by Geronga.

The suspects were brought to the Caloocan City Medical Center for a medical examination.

Police said the suspects will face charges for violation of RA 10591 or Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition.
