Rev. Fr. Anton Pascual, executive director of Caritas Manila and president of Radio Veritas, said the move is in line with the observance of the World Day of the Poor and the call made by Pope Francis to be more compassionate with the poor.

“In our preparation, we shall be providing food packs for the poor particularly those under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Manila. The cooperatives that we plan to set up will help provide livelihood programs in the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECS) in the parishes,” Fr. Pascual said over Radio Veritas.

The Church leader urged the faithful to provide more assistance and help to the poor sector of society.

Other dioceses and archdioceses around the country will also be coming up with programs for the observance of the sixth World Day of the Poor on Nov. 13. The theme for this year’s celebration is “For your sake Christ became poor.”
