Wearing of face mask optional, schools, LGUs in Cebu reminded

CEBU CITY – School as well as municipal and city officials in Cebu were reminded that wearing of face masks in indoor and outdoor setting within the province is optional.

Gov. Gwen Garcia, in a memorandum on Thursday, Nov. 3, for local government unit officials and school division superintendents, cited as basis the executive order of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. making the wearing of face masks in outdoor and indoor settings nationwide voluntary.

However, wearing of face masks remains mandatory in healthcare facilities, medical transport vehicles, and public transportation by land, sea, or air.

Cebu eased the face mask policy when Garcia issued an EO last June making their wearing in open areas optional.

Her EO became controversial when the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) objected.

Garcia, however, stood by her decision and admitted feeling vindicated when the IATF, on September, lifted the mandatory wearing of face masks in open areas.
