The local government of Quezon City (QC) expressed sadness over the school bus accident that killed one teacher in Barangay Orani, Bataan, on Saturday, Nov. 5.

In a statement on Saturday, the QC government said that it deeply regrets the unfortunate incident.

“Labis na ikinalulungkot ng lokal na pamahalaan ang pangyayari at handa rin itong tumulong sa pangangailangan ng mga nasangkot sa insidente (The local government deeply regrets the incident and is also ready to help those involved in the incident,” the local government said.

According to the city government, the school bus used by the QC Public School Gender and Development (GAD) coordinators was donated by the QC government to the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of Quezon City (SDO-QC) in 2016.

Based on the initial report, the school bus carrying over 40 passengers was heading back to QC from a capacity-building activity at Sinagtala Resort in Orani, Bataan when the accident happened.

The city government said the capacity-building activity was organized and authorized by SDO QC.

Meanwhile, the bus driver told police that the bus lost its brakes while traversing a sharp curve portion of the road, causing it to fall into a ravine.

Forty-six teachers sustained injuries and were taken to Orani Emergency Hospital for medical treatment, police said.
