TACLOBAN CITY – The provincial government of Northern Samar unveiled its Christmas display at the provincial capitol in Catarman on Friday, Nov. 4.
Over 1,000 people witnessed the switch-on ceremony of the Yuletide lights and decors dubbed “Karibhungan sa Pasko 2022.”
This year’s theme is ‘’Christmas Carnival’’ which showcases designs and decorations prepared by various national government agencies and civic organizations.
Officials from the provincial government, national government agencies, local government units, as well as the private sector, joined Gov. Edwin Ongchuan during the ceremony.
Government workers, students, and families snapped pictures when the Christmas lights and decorations were lit.
Hundreds of children received Christmas gifts from the governor and his wife Bles.
Ongchuan said that the gathering is “primarily intended for the children in order for them to savor the joy of Christmas and for the adults to evoke the child-like joy which the season brings.”
“The provincial government endeavors to live out the distinct celebration of Filipinos during the Christmas season where it is shared with an extended time for family, for sharing, forgiving, and renewed friendship,” he said.
A 30-minute fireworks display lit up the sky after the countdown.
The provincial government's Christmas festival has been a tradition for the province for six years. It aims to promote the spirit of giving and sharing and boost local tourism.
The Christmas display will be up until Jan. 6.
