Manila implements liquor ban, noise control, road closure around De La Salle University, San Beda University for Bar Exams

Liquor ban, noise control, and road closures will be implemented in the vicinities of San Beda University (SBU) and De La Salle University (DLSU) as part of the security measures for the 2022 Bar Examinations, the Manila Public Information Office (PIO) announced on Friday, Nov. 4.

Under Executive Order No. 48 series of 2022 signed by Manila Mayor Sheilah "Honey" Lacuna-Pangan on Oct. 14, a liquor ban shall be imposed within the 500-meter radius of SBU in Mendiola, Manila, and DLSU in Taft Avenue, Manila on the following dates:

  • Nov. 8, 12:00 a.m. to Nov. 9, 10:00 p.m.
  • Nov. 12, 12:00 a.m. to Nov. 13, 10:00 p.m.
  • Nov. 15, 12:00 a.m. to Nov. 16, 10:00 p.m.
  • Nov. 19, 12:00 a.m. to Nov. 20, 10:00 p.m.

Vendors shall also be prohibited within the same areas on the following dates:

  • Nov. 8, 12:00 a.m. to Nov. 10, 12:00 a.m.
  • Nov. 12, 12:00 a.m. to Nov. 14, 12:00 a.m.
  • Nov. 15, 12:00 a.m. to Nov. 17, 12:00 a.m.
  • Nov. 19, 12:00 a.m. to Nov. 21, 12:00 a.m.

Noise control will also be observed within the same areas, dates, and times.

"Videoke, karaoke, loud sound systems, speakers, and all equipment emitting loud or disturbing sounds, as well as persons or groups of persons causing loud noises within the vicinity, shall also be banned," advised the PIO.

Some roads around the said universities will also be closed to vehicular traffic to give way to examinees.

The following streets near SBU and DLSU will be closed from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 9, 13, 16 and 20:

  • Mendiola Street
  • Concepcion Aguila Street
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Street
  • Taft Avenue Northbound
  • Taft Avenue Southbound

The implementation of the guidelines is part of the security measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the Bar examinations.
