Visitors in Manila North and South Cemeteries have reached 16,976 as of 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 31.
According to the data released by the Manila Public Information Office (PIO), 10,471 people visited the Manila North Cemetery (MNC), while 6,505 trooped to the Manila South Cemetery (MSC) since their opening at 6:00 a.m. today.
Jonathan Garzon, MSC director, said they expect a higher number of people who will visit the cemetery following its two-day closure for clearing and cleaning operations.
Some parts of Pablo Ocampo Street and South Avenue heading to MSC have been closed to avoid traffic congestion.
The city government also placed help desks and police assistance centers in the area.
Deadly weapons, flammable and sharp objects, alcoholic beverages, items that cause noise, and gambling items are strictly prohibited inside the premises.
The city government said less than 100 sharp objects and cigarette packs were confiscated by Manila Police District personnel from MNC visitors.
It dispatched personnel from the Manila Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), Manila Health Department (MHD), and Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) to Manila cemeteries to ensure the safety of the visitors.
